About Us

The Community Council is primarily funded by the annual precept raised by Bridgend County Borough Council through the Council Tax.

The main function of the Council is to act as a public representative for the electors of the four wards. The Community Council is responsible for delivering a wide range of services and for the provision and upkeep of local amenities.

The Full Council meets on the third Monday of every month (except August and December) at 7pm. Click here for details of upcoming meetings. Members of the public are welcome to attend; however, permission to speak must have been previously sought from the Chairman prior to the meeting. Guest speakers with prior permission can give a fifteen minute presentation to the Council. Please contact the Clerk to arrange this.

Bridgend County Borough Council consults the Community Council on all planning applications, Highways Orders and Rights of Way Orders affecting the area. The Community Council acts as an agent for Bridgend County Borough Council in maintaining and improving public rights of ways.

The Community Council considers requests from organisations and charities for financial assistance. All requests are to be made in writing to the Clerk.

The Community Council is very proud that they have been able to create employment in the Garw Valley. There is Countryside Warden employed by the Community Council based at Parc Calon Lan, Blaengarw, but who works throughout the Garw Valley.

The Community Council has a 50 year lease from Bridgend County Borough Council (signed in 2010) for 217 acres of land in Pontycymmer and Blaengarw which it actively manages.
